And Finance
Is your business growing as fast as you'd like? Maybe you're missing out on the crucial key component of business success -- building relationships in business. Some people like to compartmentalize their lives. They believe in separating their personal from their professional lives. That's okay, but don't go overboard. Just because certain people fall into the "professional" category doesn't mean you can't develop great relationships with them. Here are some of the key strategies for building effective business relationships. 1) Make the connection The first step is to make the connection. Introduce yourself, and get to know the other person. Try to find out what makes them tick. 2) Establish common ground The next step is to find some common ground. What do the two of you have in common? No, this doesn't mean that you now have to go play golf together, although that wouldn't be a bad idea. It does mean to find out whether you share goals, customer types, interests, or even where you're from. 3) Listen and help Pay close attention to what your new contact is talking about. What is important to him or her, and how might you be able to help? If there's a way for you to provide something of value, whether it's a referral or a tip for a supplier or another networking event, be sure to share it. 4) Exchange business cards Exchanging business cards is of course the professional thing to do as you're developing a new business relationship, and it provides each party with the means to follow up. And follow up is the key to building relationships in business. |
